During that time, as he aspired to expand the Big 4’s services into Charleston, Shawn noticed something that he called “Consulting Exclusionism”
He realized that great small to mid-sized companies were held at a disadvantage because their annual revenues prevented them from being of interest to Big 4 consulting services
As a market leader for a Big 4, Shawn also had the pressure to establish transactional arrangements with business leaders that were predatory, exploitive, and manipulative
An injury that put Shawn in recovery for a year gave him a chance to confront the values conflict between his personal beliefs and the beliefs of his employer
Shawn became convinced that Charleston’s business market is rich, valuable, and deserved a consulting service that could provide the thought capital, innovation, and strategic approach of a Big 4 at a cost that is sensitive to the business's investment capability
This approach could provide Charleston businesses access to innovation, strategic planning, and transformation management services that were once out of reach thus addressing the growing barrier of Consulting Exclusionism
